My friend did not put a top coat on hers either and hasn't had much problem with chipping. I just accept the fact that I have 4 kids, a cat and 2 dogs! :) I do go over them every now and then though when I have the black paint out. Good Luck! We have painted the doors black but are wondering if we should put a top coat on them of some sort so they don't chip.
